Academic Services

The Academic Services Organization is responsible for the instructional programs, instructional support services, and faculty/student support necessary to serve the college, its students and community through quality academic offerings. Academic Services comprises the Office of Academic Services and four divisions: Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Public Safety, Arts and Communication; Business, Computing, Applied Technology and Social Sciences; and Physical Education, Health, Wellness and Athletics.

Academic Services Mission

The Academic Services Team is responsible for the management of college resources as they pertain to the instructional mission of the institution. The Academic Services team collaboratively leads the future of instruction and provides the synergy for quality college programs, degrees, certificates and academic institutional goals.

Academic Services Vision

The Academic Services team will work today to empower the future of Las Positas College, its students and its community. While our mission is to maintain excellence in all instructional programs, our vision provides for future academic planning through the strengths, skills and professionalism of our individual team leaders and the foundational support of the team leadership.

Academic Services Leadership Tenets

Academic Services 2009/2010 Priorities:

Within the context of the Institutional Strategic Goals, the Academic Services Team will complete the priorities housed within each institutional goal. The specific tasks within each priority are available upon request.

Institutional Strategic Goals

  1. Provide excellence in teaching, student learning, services to students, and scholarship by providing state of the art learning facilities, equipment, supplies and resources, and staffing. (Teaching and Learning)
    • Accreditation: Respond to appropriate instructional Planning Agendas and Recommendations as identified by ACCJC
    • Plan and Implement academic programs and/or related needs as they pertain to new or existing facilities
    • Develop, Implement, and Support programs and statewide initiatives pertinent and relevant to the enhancement of student success
  2. Increase recognition of Las Positas College as a premier institution of innovative higher education that prepares talented, competent, and engaged members of the community. (Institutional Advancement)
  3. Ensure the highest level of service to students and the community through continuous and purposeful evaluation of programs and services that situates student learning, community responsiveness, and employee engagement as the center of all we do. (Accountability)
    • Respond to appropriate instructional Planning Agendas and Recommendations as identified by ACCJC
  4. Offer cutting edge educational opportunities designed to accelerate the economic development of the Tri-Valley region. (Economic Development)
    • Plan and implement academic programs and/or related needs as they pertain to community feedback, community request, or environmental scan data
  5. Provide excellence in the stewardship of the community’s investment in Las Positas College and expand the institution’s capacity to apply resources to meet the needs of students, staff, and faculty through strategic assessment and resource allocation. (Resource Development and Allocation)
    • Maintain and develop current or future programs with limited resources utilizing efficiency, leveraged resources or other cost effective measures
    • Work with interested program faculty, staff and community to increase resources
  6. Commit to excellence in teaching, student learning, and scholarship by expanding professional development for all employees and nurturing the intellectualism within the campus culture. (Academic and Professional Excellence)
  7. Serve a diverse college community by maintaining and expanding an environment of accessibility, equality, and social justice. (Diversity and Pluralism)
  8. Craft a culture of collective responsibility through an enhancement of College processes and systems, reinforcing internal communication, integrating internal planning processes that promote coordination and accountability, and strengthening a sense of community and collaboration internally and within the District. (Communication and Infrastructure)
    • Respond to appropriate instructional Planning Agendas and Recommendations as identified by ACCJC
  9. Serve as a catalyst for enhanced community life through outreach, partnerships, services, and significant contributions to quality arts, cultural, wellness and vitality experiences and activities in the Tri-Valley. (Community Life)
  10. Engage in sustainable stewardship and community leadership as an institution through our use of products and technology, our practices and curriculum, our policies, and our philosophy as represented through institutional culture and leadership. (Sustainability)
